From the key to the bedchamber of King George III, to the dressing gown of the Emporer of China, taken from his bedroom in 1860, to the skull of a New Zealander slain in battle, Lichfieldians have a long and distinguished history as collectors of curios and fascinating artefacts. Such was the local passion for collecting that in the late 1800′s the people of Lichfield came together to open a new museum of curios and fine art. Much of the collection still exists, and is in the care of Lichfield District Council and historical venues across the city. This blog is a fun look at the history of Lichfield’s passion for collecting, and displays some fascinating and fun artefacts, that are otherwise not on display to the public.
